The characters are vile and contemptible. Kathy is just as selfish and ruthless as Heathcliff. Their shared self-destructive behaviour and tunnel vision mar everyone in their path. There are really no nuances to be discovered in the two leads' actions; it's clearly a chess game. Even their marriages are used as tools in the sick game they play with each other. The writing is indeed phenomenal in how it makes the reader dislike everyone and everything except for the moors knolls.My dislike of them all made it impossible to root for anyone. Further, my reading of the text was 'observational' given the two unreliable narrators who's account would also be tainted and observational.

Not giving a 1 or 2 star(s) because I can never do that to a book. I honestly couldn’t understand most of it. Gave up reading after like- 20 pages.

This story is excellent in two ways. Firstly, the emotions based upon love and hatred expressed by its characters are painfully but impressively intense. The second merit is in the many beautiful poetic expressions in the writing, its content tinged like footage of unforgettable moments; this is one of the most poetic books I have ever read, though it cannot defeat a poem in its poemness. The combination of these two advantages makes this story brilliant, instead of making something like “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", as their fusion.If I say one thing against this work, it is that this book, regarding its content, seems to have only a few discernible theses of its author, tolerably interesting as it is. No. I go so far as to say the few other elements abovementioned smartly outweigh the lack of theses there.This tale must be worth reading for those respects, but if you do not like love stories, you should not read this one, for, this is clearly one of them.

CD10枚組の商品。驚くべきはCDの1枚のtrack数の多さ。例えばCD1はなんと99 tracks! ペンギン版の原書で本文が約340ページだから、単純計算で、CD1枚に34ページ分が収録されていることになる。これだけの分量をコンパクトに収めるためには、早口で棒読みになるのも仕方ないか。そのかわり発音は明瞭。イギリス英語の響きが心地よい。エミリー・ブロンテの名作を原書で読むときに、細かくtrack分けしてあると、たっぷりと時間をかけながら、少しづつ読み、少しづつ聞くことが出来るのでいいと思う。
解説や関係資料が整っていて、日本の文庫本とは段違い

原典、訳文とも読んでいましたが、原典、翻訳を比較するために購入。名作中の名作で、日本語の翻訳が複数出ていますが、いまだに誤訳を残していてもったいない。言葉だけの翻訳に閉じこもらず、イギリスの田園風景を理解してから翻訳してほしいですね。
